MASTERS OF ARTS IN LINGUISTICS, MEDIA AND COMMUNICATION
Objectives of the programme
Admission Requirements
The programme is open to students with at least an upper second-class honors degree from Moi University or a university recognized by the Moi University Senate. In addition, candidates to the programme must have taken Linguistics, Media and Communication, or relevant communication studies at undergraduate level. Applicants with a lower second class honours and relevant field experience may also be considered.Duration
The programme extends over a period of two academic years for full-time students and is divided into four semesters as follows:
To qualify for the award of a Master of Arts degree in linguistics, Media and communication a student must take and
pass 5 core courses and 3 elective courses. The student must also, during the third semester, carry out research on a topic
approved by the department and submit her/his thesis at least a month before the end of the programme. In total, a candidate MUST obtain a minimum of 46 units to graduate.
- The programme aims at training scholars by giving them a good grasp of the principles and methods in Linguistics media and communication.
- To expose graduates to current issues and research in linguistics, media and Communication. Thus the programme prepares students for independent study and research.

- Second semester: course work and proposal writing
- Third semester: data collection and analysis; first draft of thesis
- Fourth semester: course work and completion of thesis writing
