Diploma in Music
Introduction
The Diploma in Music programme aims at equipping learners with adequate skills, attitudes and practices that can enable them artistically and innovatively offer varied services in music to the community. This includes the contribution to national and human development by promoting and preserving our cultural musical expressions, music therapy, martial and aerobics in areas of physical development and health. In addition the programme aims to develop artists to produce quality music which can compete favourably in the regional and global market so as to contribute to the growth of the country’s economy, advocate for good governance in the expanded democratic space in Kenyan politics, besides offering music ministry services in the various denominations/faiths of our religious sector. The programme targets practising artists of all ages and abilities in the society that have been unable to maximize on and exploit their potentials due to lack of proper formal training. In line with this, the courses provide needed practical knowledge and skills not only for one’s own transformation but also to meet the requirements for human resources in schools, colleges, media houses, department of culture and tourism, church music ministries, disciplined forces, entertainment and pop music industry for the wider community development.
Admission requirements
To qualify for admission into the Diploma in Music programme, applicants should be in possession of:a) A mean grade of C at KCSE or Division III at KCE ORb) A mean grade of D+ at KCSE or its equivalent PLUS a Certificate in music of Moi University or any another recognized institution ORc) The above and a P1 certificate with a credit in music PLUS Knowledge in music score sight reading, composition, arrangement, and an ability to play a western and/or African instrument.
