BACHELOR OF ARTS WITH EDUCATION (GEOGRAPHY)
The Department of Geography emphasizes two geographic tracks including:
- Physical Geography, which focuses on the Earth’s Biophysical aspects of the environment and
- Human Geography. Both tracks are strongly blended with principles and applications of Geoinfomatics and research methodology.
The B.A. in Geography programme introduces students mainly to Physical and Human Geography. Physical geography focuses on Planning, components of and Geo-information Systems that provide synergy to make spatial examination and analysis of the human environment geographically complete.
The program pays particular attention to knowledge and applications of geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing techniques, and computer-assisted cartography, land use assessment and planning, and applied human and earth resource management.

Objectives/Admission
Objectives
The main objective of the programme is to mold students and build their capacity in evaluating, analyzing and applying geospatial knowledge and skills in resource and environmental management for sustainable development.
Specific objectives of the programme are:
- To equip students with geospatial knowledge
- To develop students capable of applying the various geospatial techniques.
- To produce graduates who can participate effectively in the formulation of natural and human resource management strategies and policies at the local, nationaland international levels,
- To prepare students for graduate studies.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted into the degree programme, an applicant must be in possession of the minimum qualification for admission into a B.A degree programme in the public universities in Kenya, or its equivalent. In addition, he/she will be required to:
- Have obtained a minimum of a Grade C+ in Geography and C in Mathematics and any of Group II courses at Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) level or 2 principles (one of which should be in geography) and 2 subsidiaries at A level and should have at least three years or relevant working experience in a recognized field. or
- have a Diploma and/or also have a Higher National diploma in a related subject (with distinction or credit) from a recognized institution.
Duration and Mode of the Programme
The B.A. Degree Programme in Geography normally takes four years. However, mature entry Diploma holders and mature
age students may join the programme at second year level.
Those with Higher national Diploma may Join at Third year of study. The programme will be run through course-work,
field-course, attachment and project writing.
